AV’s in-country representatives are well placed to identity and supervise the educational projects we support. By harnessing the passion and talents of AV staff, we ensure that our ALL our donor funding is spent in the rural schools we support.
EAST AFRICA / Nigel Warren
Nigel is joint founder of AV with Peter Bell. He was educated in Kenya and Tanzania and spent 29 years in the Gurkhas, serving in Malaysia, Borneo, Sarawak, Brunei, Hong Kong, Germany, UK and Kenya. He lives in Nairobi where he supervises AV’s East African operations.
UGANDA / Shirray Knight
Australian-born Shirray has worked on tourism and community development projects in Uganda for the last 15 years. She has been AV’s representative in Uganda since 2003.
TANZANIA / Helena Grant
Helena was born and brought up in Hong Kong before moving to Tanzania to teach in an international school. She is AV’s representative in Arusha.
ASIA
Richard Venning
Richard was born in Srinagar, Kashmir. Most of his life has been spent in the Army, mainly with the Gurkhas. As a result he has a passion for all things Nepali, speaks Nepali and has many friends in Nepal and Darjeeling. He joined AV in 1998 and is responsible for all AV matters in Asia, including an oversight of any AV Foundation projects.
INDIA / Tendup Tshering Lama
Tendup was born in Darjeeling and trained to be a Buddhist priest before joining the Gurkhas in the British Army. He currently lives in Kurseong where he is AV’s representative for the Darjeeling district.
THE AMERICAS
MEXICO / James Badenoch
James' bio to come
Originally from the Lake District , Lynette moved to Africa shortly after getting married and has lived and worked in Kenya , Botswana , Nigeria and Ethiopia over the past 30 years. She joined AV 10 years ago.
MALAWI / Heather Wallace
UK born Heather moved to Malawi as a nurse in the early 1970s and has been AV’s representative in Malawi since 1998.
Bryan and Rosie run the Maekok River Village Resort in Thaton. Prior to this, they had acquired many years teaching experience in Hong Kong. They are well placed to identify and supervise much needed community educational projects around Thaton.
