We encourage AV Volunteers and others to hold fund raising events, run marathons, ride cycle races to raise money for the AV Foundation.
We are also very happy for the AV Foundation to be used to as a vehicle for AV Volunteers to raise money for their schools and communities where they spent time volunteering. Please contact us to discuss.
Forthcoming Events and recent events include: 20 December 2011 - The AV Foundation Carol Service - 7.00pm at St Georges Church, Hanover Square, London W1S 1FX. The Carol service is a reunion for AV volunteers together with their family and friends; a chance to celebrate the work of the Foundation and thank our supporters. Tickets are £12 each, please Click Here to buy yours now!June-September 2011: Dave Cornthwaite paddles 2404 miles down the Mississippi, breaking a world record distance on a Stand Up Paddleboard.April 2011: Dave Cornthwaite and friend Sebastian Terry are cycling a tandem bicycle 1400 miles between Vancouver and Las Vegas, the 3rd 1000-mile journey of Dave's Expedition1000 project. Read more here May 2011: Peter and Pauline Cornthwaite, whose son Dave was a Uganda AV in 1999, are cycling the length of Britain from Lands End to John O'Groats as a celebration of their 60th year. In June 2011 they are also competing in the Olympic length Dambuster Triathlon. Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/60soon June - September 2011: Dave Cornthwaite is undertaking a record-breaking Stand Up Paddleboard journey along the length of the Mississippi River. Starting in Lake Itasca, MN, Dave will paddle 2400 miles in 100 days, his journey ending when he reaches the Gulf of Mexico south of New Orleans at the end of September. Read more here Past Events December 2010: Our annual Christmas Carol Service attracted 430 AVs and helped to raise over £8000 for The AV Foundation. April - June 2010: Dave Cornthwaite warmed up for his world record breaking 2011 descent of the Mississippi River with two Stand Up Paddleboarding warm-up journeys. In late Aprl getting back on the water this summer, undertaking two mini adventures by Stand Up Paddleboard. In April he and friend Sebastian Terry became the first people to paddle the length of Lake Geneva, Europe's largest freshwater body of water. Then In June Dave and ocean rower Sarah Outen paddled between Bath and London. April 2010: Belinda Boa recently completed the Two Oceans half marathon, raising close to £2000 for the AV Foundation project in Philippolis, South Africa. To raise her total even higher, please visit www.justgiving.com/belinda-boa October - December 2009: Uganda 99' AV Dave Cornthwaite reached the Murray Mouth on December 19th '09, having covered 2476km along Australia's largest river, the Murray, walking and kayaking from source to sea in the first leg of his Great Big Paddle project. All funds raised by Dave's journeys will be used to implement solar power and drinking water projects at AV Foundation schools. August 2009: A team of dedicated adventurers, one being previous India AV volunteer Alex Jack will be tackling the infamous Manali - Leh Highway in Ladakh , India on a two-week bicycle expedition this August. This gruelling self-sufficient challenge is in aid of the Indian Schools Project, which aims to raise £5,000 for six remote Indian primary schools in the Git Dabling valley of the Darjeeling District. Set up by Alex Jack in August 2008, the Indian Schools Project aims to improve the educational facilities at these under-funded government schools, which have not seen any significant investment since they were built. http://www.indianschoolsproject.co.uk May/June 2009: Jack Sutcliffe summitted Everest to raise money for the AV Foundation at the same time. His blog is a great read and if you want to show your support his donation website for AV is still safe, secure and open at http://www.justgiving.com/jacksutcliffe March 2009: Proceeds from the Price Waterhouse Coopers’s Interns “Mind the Gap Charity Ball” held in Piccadilly were divided between the AV Foundation and the Teenage Cancer Trust. A total of £9,500 was raised for the AV Foundation. June 2008: A nine-member Africa & Asia Venture team raised £17,000 in sponsorship funds by taking part in East Africa ’s premier running event - the Lewa Marathon set in the foothills of Mount Kenya and organised by Tusk. www.tusk.org
